OCR API Pricing: How to Budget for Document Parsing
Estimate OCR and parsing costs with Reducto’s per-page pricing, batch discounts, and a simple monthly worksheet for processing and review.
The short answer
Reducto’s standard r-1 Parse rate is $0.01 per page, or $10 per 1,000 pages. At that rate, parsing 10,000 pages costs $100 before optional features or discounts.
To build an OCR budget, start with your monthly page volume, then add any review and operating costs. This guide uses Reducto’s published rates to show the calculation. Check the pricing page for current plans and volume pricing.
Know what the OCR price includes
OCR turns text in scanned documents into machine-readable text. Reducto Parse also returns document structure, including tables and layout, for uses such as search and LLM context.
When comparing prices, compare the output you need. Plain text may be enough for one application; another may require intact tables and reading order. A lower page rate is only useful if the output meets those requirements.
If you need named fields against a schema, such as an invoice number and total, that is a separate extraction task. See Extract for that workflow; the estimates below focus on Parse.
Estimate your monthly processing cost
Processing cost = billable pages × price per page.
Count pages rather than files. For example, 2,000 five-page PDFs contain 10,000 pages, giving a standard r-1 Parse estimate of 10,000 × $0.01 = $100.
The table shows how that estimate scales. Batch pricing applies when you explicitly select the discounted batch queue.
| Monthly pages | r-1 Parse at $0.01/page | With the 20% batch discount |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 | $100 | $80 |
| 50,000 | $500 | $400 |
| 100,000 | $1,000 | $800 |
These estimates use standard list rates before optional features or negotiated volume pricing. Growth and Enterprise rates can vary with volume, so use your quoted rate when available.
Optional features, such as OCR data return or advanced chart processing, can add charges. Legacy Parse rates also differ from r-1. See Usage and Pricing for the applicable rates. Spreadsheet usage is cell-based and should not be included in a PDF page estimate.
Build the monthly worksheet
The processing bill is one part of the budget. Add the costs your workflow actually needs:
| Budget item | How to estimate it |
|---|---|
| OCR and parsing | Monthly billable pages × your applicable price per page |
| Optional features | Add charges for the features you enable, using the rate card. |
| Human review | Total review hours × hourly labor cost |
| Storage and operations | Add the monthly infrastructure and maintenance costs for this workflow. |
| Implementation | Show setup as a one-time cost, separate from the recurring monthly budget. |
For example, assume 10,000 pages per month at the standard r-1 Parse rate and five hours of review at $30 per hour. Processing is $100 and review is $150, for a $250 monthly subtotal before storage and operations. Substitute your own review hours and labor rate.
This is why page price and output quality belong in the same comparison. Check how much correction your documents require, rather than assuming the lowest API bill produces the lowest total cost.
Use batch pricing when turnaround allows
For non-urgent parsing, Reducto’s batch queue provides a 20% usage discount with a 12-hour completion guarantee. Ordinary asynchronous submission does not receive that discount unless you select the batch queue.
An overnight archive-processing job may fit this tradeoff; an application with someone waiting for a result may not. At standard rates, the 10,000-page example drops from $100 to $80 in processing costs when submitted through the batch queue.
For larger workloads, request volume pricing and discuss the applicable batch discount with your account team. Use the high-volume ingestion guide for capacity planning.
Frequently asked questions
Is the cheapest OCR price per page always the best choice?
No. Compare the same documents and required output, then include any review or correction work. If a lower-priced option meets those requirements, it may be sufficient.
Does this estimate include field extraction?
No. It covers OCR and document parsing with r-1 Parse. Schema-based field extraction is priced separately; use the pricing page when budgeting for that output.
Where should I check my final rate?
Use the current Usage and Pricing documentation and your applicable contract or rate card.
