Introducing Reducto Office: Full-fidelity doc editing in ChatGPT and Codex

Today we’re introducing Reducto Office, a free plugin that brings full-fidelity editing for Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets to ChatGPT and Codex. It gives agents the tools to make precise changes to existing files, with a live editor where you can review the results and continue working.

Our work at Reducto has focused on making complex documents understandable to AI, including the structure and formatting that give their content meaning. Reducto Office extends that focus to editing. We want people to be able to work with agents on the files they already use, while preserving the details that make those files useful.

Document editing built for people and agents

Most working documents carry more than their text. A contract might hold reviewer comments, tracked changes and tables with their own formatting, while a presentation might have text, charts or images arranged carefully across different slide layouts. Changing the content reliably means understanding where the change belongs and leaving everything around it intact.

Traditional document editors were built for people working through a graphical interface. When an AI workflow reduces a document to plain text, details such as formatting, table structure and review history can be lost. Generating a replacement file also leaves people comparing versions or moving edits back into the original.

We built Reducto Office around a document engine that agents can operate directly, without having to navigate that interface. Edits are applied to the file’s underlying structure and reflected in the live editor so you can easily inspect what changed and refine the result. 

For Word documents, the editor supports:

• Write and revise: Draft, rewrite, shorten or restructure text, with find and replace across the document.
• Control formatting: Adjust styles, fonts, spacing and lists, with page layouts rendered to closely match Word.
• Work with tables: Insert rows and columns, edit content and merge cells.
• Manage document details: Update headers, footers, footnotes, endnotes and comments.
• Review changes: Propose edits as tracked changes, then accept, reject or refine revisions in the document.
• Edit rich content: Work with pictures, text boxes, charts, equations, hyperlinks, form fields and content controls.

Office also supports PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets. A few examples of how you can use it:

• Contract review: Work through reviewer comments, propose revisions as tracked changes and redact selected information before sharing.
• Presentations: Translate an existing PowerPoint deck while preserving its design and keeping the slides editable.
• Spreadsheets: Turn a budget or project brief into an Excel workbook you can inspect and continue editing.
